FAQ

Got questions? We've got you covered!

What is a peribottle and why do I need one?

A peribottle is a small bottle that sprays water to gently clean and soothe your intimate area after childbirth. It helps reduce burning when you urinate and keeps the area clean without wiping.

Does it really help with the burning feeling when urinating?

Yes. Spraying water while you pee dilutes the urine, which helps reduce the stinging or burning sensation - especially if you have stitches or tears.

When should I use a peribottle?

Use it during and after every toilet visit in the first days after birth. It’s especially helpful during your first postpartum pees when everything feels most sensitive. Most women use this for every toilet visit up to 7 days postpartum.

Should I start rinsing before or during urinating?

Start rinsing before you begin to pee, then continue during. This helps make peeing easier and reduces discomfort from the very first moment.

How do I use the peribottle?

Fill the bottle with lukewarm water, aim from the front, and gently squeeze as you begin to pee. Let the water flow over sensitive areas like stitches or tears to help dilute the urine and reduce discomfort. Continue rinsing for gentle, soothing relief.

Why is bottle size important?

A larger bottle means you won’t run out mid-use. This ensures continuous relief during your entire toilet visit—something smaller bottles often can’t provide.

What should I put in the bottle?

Use lukewarm water. You can also use chamomile tea if you want extra soothing, but plain water works perfectly.

How long should I use a peribottle after birth?

Most moms use it for the first week, but you can continue as long as it feels helpful during your recovery.

Do I still need this if I didn’t tear or have stitches?

Yes. Even without tearing, the area can be swollen and sensitive after birth. A peribottle helps keep things clean and comfortable.

What’s the best way to support healing after birth?

Use a combination of rinsing, cooling, and letting the area breathe. Rinse with a peribottle during toilet visits, use cooling pads to reduce swelling and soothe discomfort, and allow the area to air-dry when possible. This simple routine helps make recovery more comfortable.

Simple interventions that can decrease the discomfort associated with perineal trauma is cleansing the perineum with a squeeze bottle. On the light of the study findings it is recommended that self perineal pain instruction can be introduced to the women antenatal and then it can be used postnatal.
